Pastured Pork

Our KuneKune pastured pork program is a work in progress. Our KuneKune pigs play a very large part in our regenerative agricultural plan. When the pigs are on a piece of land, they clear the overgrowth of weeds and bushes - many of which are invasive - by eating and trampling them. In doing so, they stir up dormant grasses that lay beneath the earth’s surface. When the pigs are moved, grassy pasture returns to the area where they were moved from. The chickens can then be pulled through this pasture.

KuneKune pigs consume more grass than grain. Their short snouts make them great at grazing, and they can survive solely on pasture grasses. Our pigs are supplemented with a small amount of grain, as well as vegetables from our gardens. KuneKune pork is absolutely delicious and different than any conventional/store bought “white meat” pork there's no going back once you taste it. The color is a deep reddish hue - they’re often called a “red meat pig” - this is a result of the beta carotenoids in the grasses and legumes they consume on pasture.

Kunekune pork is available currently, although some cuts/products are sold out (the bacon was the first to go - it was beyond delicious). See our price list for current offerings.
